except for 2 things:

The people you meet and the books you read."

Inside a dog it's too dark to read."

BIBLIOFILES
According to the American Heritage Dictionary, a bibliophile is a connoisseur of books. Whether you consider yourself an expert or an amateur, chances are when it comes to books, you know what you like. The Bibliofile Book Review is an opportunity for you to discuss the books you've read or learn about the ones you haven't.
Read one of our staff's reviews, or submit your own review of one of your favorite books or if a book disappoints, you can warn others off. Remember what you learned in Kindergarten, it's nice to share. If you're like us, half the fun of reading is sharing your thoughts on what you've read with other bibliophiles.
You can submit your review at the bottom of the page.
THE LAST LECTURE
by Randy Pausch
(published by Hyperion 2008)

It was a long cold winter here in Michigan and I, like most of my family and friends, kept looking for sunny skies and the promise of better days. So it might seem a little strange that one of the books that offered me the most encouragement this winter was written by a man who was dying of pancreatic cancer.
However, The Last Lecture is not a book about death. It is not maudlin and it doesn’t dissolve into weepy sentimentality, as it so easily might have. It is full of amusing anecdotes and inspiring insights. Professor Pausch has a candid and refreshing way of getting to the heart of the matter.
When recounting his decision to participate in the last lecture series at Carnegie Mellon, he states, "There’s a formality in academia that can't be ignored, even if a man is busy with other things, like trying not to die." Don't get me wrong, I may have shed a tear or two while reflecting on the loss of someone who so clearly was an inspiration to those whose lives he touched. But mostly I was encouraged to do a little better, to be a little better, to live in the moment. As the author so succinctly relates, "Time is all you have. And you may find one day that you have less than you think."
WRITE YOUR REVIEW
When writing your review, be sure to state the title and author at the beginning. It might be useful for your readers to know when the book was published as well. You can give a brief synopsis of the book but don't attempt to tell the whole story. Give just enough information to pique your reader's interest, but by all means don't give away the
ending of a mystery or suspense novel. Be sure to share your overall impression of the book, use a five star rating system with five being excellent and one – not so much. You will receive an E-mail notifying you when your review will appear on this website so you can tell your friends and family to look for it here.

Who is Carl?
A bookstore is hardly a bookstore without a cat and Carl is the quintessential bookstore cat.
He's the friendliest feline in Kawkawlin, but he's perfectly content to hang out in the backroom if a customer has allergies or aversions.

Carl has his favorites just like everyone else. Here are his thoughts on a book that has tickled his fancy lately...
Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron

"The story of Dewey, who was stuffed into the book return slot of a library when he was a kitten, is indeed a fascinating story. Unfortunately, the woman who wrote the story feels it necessary to include her own personal anecdotes as well, ZZZ..."
